Critical length and time scales during the initial stages of nucleation in polymer blends

چکیده
The initial stages of nucleation during liquid–liquid phase separation in polymer mixtures were studied by time-resolved small angle neutron scattering. The time required for nucleation vanishes exponentially as the stability limit ~spinodal! is approached. The critical nucleus size decreases monotonically with increasing quench depth and remains finite at the spinodal. Our data differ qualitatively from theoretical predictions. © 2002 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1463056#

Morphology and Mechanical Properties Investigation of Binary Polymer Blends Based on PP/SEBS and PP/PC
In this study, eight binary blends of polypropylene (PP)/ poly [styrene-b-(ethylene-co butylene)-b-styrene] tri-block copolymer (SEBS) and polypropylene (PP)/ polycarbonate (PC) were produced at different composition through twin screw extruder. The composition of the minor phases was changed to correlate the morphology and mechanical properties of binary blends (PP/PC and PP/SEBS) through ther...
متن کاملInvestigation of Different Stages of Aluminum Fluoride Crystal Growth
Crystallization of Aluminum fluoride at atmospheric pressure has been considered. Structure, size and shape of crystals formed during the crystallization process have been investigated. By applying the direct analysis method for the existed aluminum in solution, the aluminum fluoride nucleation process has been detected as a concentration valley at the outset of crystallization process. The...
متن کاملCompatibilization of polycarbonate/poly (ethylene terephthalate) blends by addition of their transesterification product
In this study, poly carbonate (PC) and poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET) were reactive melt-blended under two different conditions to produce PC/PET copolymers. For each condition, samples were taken at specified mixing times representative a specific structure of copolymers and each one employed to physically compatibilize a PC/PET blend with a fixed composition. Reactive blending and copoly...
متن کاملSimilarity of the signatures of the initial stages of phase separation in metastable and unstable polymer blends.
Time-resolved small angle neutron scattering was used to probe the initial stages of liquid-liquid phase separation in both critical and off-critical binary polymer blends, and the critical (q(c)) and most probable (q(m)) wave vectors were identified for several quench depths. For the critical blend, the Cahn-Hilliard-Cook theory provides a framework for analyzing the data and explains the obse...
متن کاملEarly stages of dewetting of microscopically thin polymer films: A molecular dynamics study
We present results from a molecular dynamics simulation of the dewetting process of microscopically thin polymer films cast on a solid surface. The chain length and time scales accessed in the present simulation would correspond to early stages of the dewetting process before hydrodynamic interactions become important. Even though the surface in contact with the film is purely repulsive, we fin...
